This in-person instructor led 8-hour course introduces you to the basic concepts of mental health awareness and how to use them when assisting with someone in need. In addition you will learn about the resources available in your community to help. Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and being resiliant.  The program focuses the belief that individuals experiencing these mental health challenges can are able to get better. 

What will I learn?

Just as traditional CPR and First aid courses teach you how to be that initial responder to assist with an emergency or accident,  the Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. 
Topics Covered in the class include: 
  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Trauma
  • Psychosis
  • Substance Use disorders

Who should attend?

This course is for anyone in the community that would like to learn more about mental health and how to identify and help people who may be suffering.   This class is useful for occupations that work with the general public including, educators, HR professionals, business owners, managers and supervisors, public safety personell, and medical professionals. 

Walk away with?

Participants will walk away with a 2 year-Cerification issued from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing
