The Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed for health care professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a variety of clinical and hospital settings.
This course covers the following topics: 
  • Describe the importance of CPR and its impact on saving lives
  • Describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply the BLS concepts
  • Identify the signs of someone needing CPR
  • Perform CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • Describe the importance of early use of an AED and demonstrate its use
  • Provide effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Perform as a team member during multi rescuer CPR
  • Describe how to relieve the body of a foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
Students who successfully complete the course will receive a 2-year certification from the American Heart Association.
