Scaffolding Competent Person

A competent person is a necessity on every job site and is someone who has sufficient experience and knowledge to recognize scaffold hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and who has the ability to shut down the worksite until any hazards are corrected. The competent person should be the most knowledgeable person, in this case about scaffold safety, on-site.

This 1 day certification course through the Scaffold Training Institute (STI) is designed to prepare all trades in understanding the hazards of modular scaffolding, swing stage, and rolling scaffolds including OSHA’s five most serious scaffold hazards: falling objects, falls, unsafe access, scaffold collapse, and electrocutions.

Walk Away With

  • Training will include a hands-on demonstration of inspection and erection techniques
  • Training manual, with extensive notes, to use during the course and on the job site as a field reference
  • Certification of Completion provided by College of Southern Idaho
  • Scaffolding Competent Person Industry Card licensed through the Scaffold Training Institute (valid for 3 years)

Who Should Attend?

This course is recommended for anyone who is responsible for the erection, dismantling and/or use of supported scaffolding systems or anyone interested in understanding more about scaffolding safety.

  • Specific safety rules and steps associated with the erection of frame, tube & clamp and system scaffolding
  • Identify the major items to consider when performing a scaffold inspection
  • Specify the general requirements for frame, tube & clamp, and system scaffolds
  • Determine the hazards associated during erection, dismantling, altering and using scaffolds
  • Design and calculate the scaffold loads
